John's "Sperm Whale" sails approximately 28 inches above the roof line. It is 30 inches long, 5 inches deep, and the tail fluke is a full 8 inches. If you look closely, you'll see the brass "guard dog" attached to the mounting post under the whale. The incredible balance that John engineers into his weathervanes is so good that the whale will literally leap off the post in a stiff breeze. The "guard dog" keeps the whale on the post where it belongs and is John's trademark. It also helps keep the weathervane from being easily stolen by college pranksters. Each weathervane full bodied, hand hammered copper and is signed, dated, and numbered. The copper has not been treated and will age into a rich patina over time.
