When the last century
was in it's teens, Waterbury was at the height of it's industrial
power. Its heritage of precision tool making was the envy of the world.
With the suddenness of a lightning bolt, this heritage and horse power
was put to the task. Our President was Woodrow Wilson and the occasion
was World War 1.
In these heady times an incredible
map was commissioned of Waterbury. It was a work of art in which each building
was hand drawn in exacting detail. Many of the city's most impressive structures
were drawn in yet further detail in the margins with an index of where
those buildings could be found in the "bigger picture".
Deep in the archives, one perfect
copy has been found.
This original is titled "Areoview
of Waterbury Connecticut 1917." We have reproduced
this original onto high quality paper and offer it as a reproduction which
measures 24" X 36".
Within our store, it is normal
to find our customers and their children carefully studying our framed
edition of this map. They are sharing their history and their heritage
as they look for the factory where "great grandpa" used to work or the
house where he used to live. If you used to live in Waterbury, you'll want
this incredible map for your home or office.
